After opening the 46th Annual Film Society Festival For Egyptian Cinema, Al Daif (The Guest) by director Hadi Elbagoury received three awards, the Audience Award, Best Set Design Award, and the Special Jury Award (Maged El Kedwany). This brings the total awards won by the film to 6, including the Audience Award at Malmo Arab Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and the Best African-Asian Actress Award at the New Vision International Film Festival
In the presence of Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, the awards ceremony will be held at Renaissance Cinemas, Emad El Din St., Downtown, on Saturday, February 8, at 6:00 PM.
Al Daif released in many Arab countries and around the world, including Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, the Netherlands and Estonia. It world premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, where it had a full-house screening and received huge audience acclaim, as the sole Egyptian and African film in the festival's Official Competition and the first ever Egyptian feature film to get officially selected for the festival. Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is one of the A-rated film festivals along with 14 other festivals around the world. It screens over 250 features, as well as 300 short and animated films annually throughout its different programs.
Produced by iProductions, Al Daif has achieved stunning success since its release at Egyptian theatres last year in January. It also received wide critical acclaim and took part in many international festivals and film events, including the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam, and competed in the Official Competition of the Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Tétouan. Additionally, it screened at the Manarat Festival du Cinéma Méditerranéen in Tunisia.
Al Daif tells the story of a young man who visits a family during dinner before everything changes taking an unexpected turn of events. The film stars Khaled El Sawy, Ahmed Malek, Shereen Reda and Jamila Awad, alongside guest stars Maged El Kedwany, Mohamed Mamdouh, Arfa Abdel Raoul and Mahmoud Al Lithy.
Al Daif marks the second collaboration between writer Ibrahim Eissa and iProductions after Mawlana. It is also the company's second time to work with Director Hadi Elbagoury after Hepta: The Last Lecture that is the highest-grossing romantic film in the history of Egyptian cinema with revenues of more than EGP 27 million. The film also brings together Eissa and Elbagoury for the first time ever.
